Games of the Week & Games to Watch 1/11 - 1/17

Rankings from 1/11/2010 AP Poll

#4 Villanova @ Louisville
Villanova can notch another quality win when they visit Louisville, but they will be put to the test by what is still a pretty good Cardinals team that is in need of a quality win.

Ohio St @ #6 Purdue
Evan Turner may be back, but he and the rest of OSU will have their work cut out for them when they travel to Purdue.

Texas A&M @ #13 Kansas St.
A&M (Currently 26th in the AP poll) will try to prove that Kansas St. was over-hyped the past couple weeks, while K-State will try to bounce back from a toough roud loss to Missouri back on their home court.

#2 Kentucky @ Florida
Kentucky will look to notch a quality conference win on the road when playing a Florida team that has looked shaky since beating Florida St. and Michigan St. early in the season.

Missouri @ Texas Tech
Sure they beat K-State at home, but will Missouri be able to take that momentum on the road and beat a decent Texas Tech team?

Minnesota @ #7 Michigan St.
Michigan St. has a chance at another quality conference win here and should be able to do it at home.  Don't sleep on Minnesota though, as they were ranked in the preseason and have been playing pretty well since their early season stumbles.

#16 Pittsburgh @ #15 UCONN
Can UCONN bounce back and beat a red hot Pittsburgh team at home? Or will Pitt keep heading up while UCONN continues heading down?

#23 Miami (Fla) @ Virginia Tech
Miami, who had been over-looked for only having 1 quality win until beating Wake Forest, will have a shot to make it 2 in a row with a win on the road against a Virginia Tech team that is turning a few heads themselves.

#13 Wisconsin @ Northwestern
NW has a lot to prove and they will get their chance when hosting a high ranked Wisonsin team on Wednesday.  On the other hand, with how Northwestern has looked this season, it's a good chance for Wisc to grab another quality win on the road.

#12 North Carolina @ #24 Clemson
North Carolina can quiet a few naysayers if they pick up a good road win agianst a ranked opponant in ACC play.

#17 Gonzaga @ St. Mary's
For the past 3-4 years, this has been a marquee matchup in the WCC.  Gonzaga will have to play St. Mary's twice this year with this 1st one on the road as both teams will be looking to become the frontrunner of the West Coast Conference.

1/15/2010 (No Key Matchups)

Texas Tech @ #3 Kansas
Kansas will be back at home after traveling to Tenn and Neb and will look to continue their streak of 80 consecutive home wins against a conference rival. They will need to beat both Nev and TTU this week to keep their hold on a future #1 seed outlook.

#5 Syracuse @ #10 West Virginia
Two top rank teams from the Big East will clash in West Virginia as WV looks to shake off some the shaky play they've had lately while at home. Cuse would love a huge marquee victory here to help strengthen their tournament resume.

Louisville @ #16 Pittsburgh
Both teams will be playing their 2nd big game of the week as they both try to survice the fierce conference play of the Big East.  A huge test to Louisville who if they lose both games this week, might be playing themselves out of the tournament.

#21 Mississippi @ #9 Tennessee
Mississippi will be trying to bounce back from a loss to Miss St, but will have their hands full when visiting a Tenn team that knocked off Kansas last week. Tenn on the other hand can notch another quality win against a ranked team and show they are a contender even while currently having 3 players suspended and 1 gone indefinitely.

#20 Georgia Tech @ #12 North Carolina
Just 2 days after playing at Clemson, UNC will host a hot GT team that beat Duke last week.  UNC has the chance to climb back on to the contenders list this week, or possibly go the other way and fall out of the Top 25.

Oklahoma St. @ #22 Baylor
Baylor is the most recent Big 12 team to enter the AP Poll this season and they will get a chance to build on that against a quality OSU team that is also a quality win or two away from climbing into the polls.

Texas A&M @ #1 Texas
A&M has some quality wins this year but this week will really show what their made of as they travel to #13 Kansas St and then to play in state rival Texas... who just happens to be ranked #1 in the nation currently.

#13 Wisconsin @ Ohio St.
It seems as though both of these teams just keep playing against very high quality opponants.  Should make for a great matchup when Wisconsin travels to Ohio St. on Saturday.

#11 Georgetown @ #4 Villanova
Georgetown lost to Marquette by 3, while Villanove beat them by 2, twice... what I'm getting at, is while this is a big game between 2 top ranked teams. I'm picking Nova to win it at home. Georgetown will have a shot to prove me wrong and get a marquee victory when the two meet on Sunday.

Other games to watch:
(1/11) Oklahoma St @ Oklahoma, (1/12) Maryland @ Wake Forest, (1/13) #3 Kansas @ Nebraska, #20 Georgia Tech @ Virginia, #1 Texas @ Iowa St, (1/14) Seton Hall @ #11 Georgetown, Arizona St @ Oregon, California @ Washington St, (1/16) Missouri @ Oklahoma, Dayton @ Xavier, California @ Washington, Georgia @ Mississippi St, Illinois @ #7 Michigan St, Notre Dame @ Cincinnati, #6 Purdue @ Northwestern, Virginia Tech @ #25 Florida St, #23 Miami (Fla) @ Virginia, (1/17) Wake Forest @ #8 Duke, #15 UCONN @ Michigan
